IAG Makes Offer for Norwegian

It has been announced today that IAG (International Airlines Group), the parent company of British Airways and Iberia, bought a 4.61% stake in Norwegian. IAG has stated that it may use this minority stake to initiate discussions with Norwegian for a merger or acquisition. At this point, it’s too soon to tell what will happen, but be rest assured that the AFA’s Legal Department has been alerted of today’s news and is closely monitoring the situation.

One of the main reasons why we formed a union two years ago and joined the Association of Flight Attendants was acknowledging that strong job protections are critical to our workgroup. In addition to having the financial and political tools we need to negotiate strong job protections, the AFA has years of experience dealing with events such as this that may impact the job security of its members.

After today’s announcement, there will be a series of events unfolding over the upcoming weeks and months. Now, more than ever, we need to stand together to protect our jobs. Wear your AFA pin and make sure your fellow US-based colleagues are signed up to the AFA newsletter.
